The American Cancer Society selected Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas as the location of its newest Hope Lodge, a home-like facility that offers free accommodations for cancer patients who have to travel long distances for their care. Hope Lodge will help eliminate at least some of the inconvenience and expenses, while providing a welcoming and supportive environment where patients can focus all their energies on getting well.
Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation, which owns the land on which the facility will be built, is donating its use pursuant to a ground lease agreement to the American Cancer Society. Although Hope Lodge Dallas will be built on a 1.5-acre plot of land southwest of Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center, patients staying at the lodge can receive cancer care from any health care provider in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The Dallas Hope Lodge will include:
In addition to offering patients a home away from home during treatment, Hope Lodge Dallas will also serve as the regional headquarters for the American Cancer Society. This partnership testifies to the leadership role Baylor is playing in cancer research and treatment.
Philanthropic support is instrumental to Hope Lodge Dallas, which will be 100 percent supported by philanthropy.
Funding for Hope Lodge Dallas relies solely on philanthropic support, and approximately $20 million is needed for capital expenses and $5 million for annual programming and operations. The project will not break ground until at least 85 percent of the capital funds have been raised and are available.
Several community partners have already shown their support of this exciting and life-changing service to cancer patients in the Greater Dallas area. Special thanks to all of our early lead supporters!
