The Association of American Medical Colleges has predicted there will be a shortage of more than 90,000 doctors by 2020. A recognized leader in the training of medical professionals since 1903, Baylor Dallas trains approximately 220 residents and fellows in 30 specialties each year – ranging from internal medicine to vascular surgery to pathology.
As the cost of providing medical education continues to rise, donor support is needed for Baylor to continue to offer high-quality medical educational programs that help secure the future health of our community. Thanks to generous donors, the Foundation plans to fund 23 residents and fellows in fiscal year 2016 at a cost of more than $2.4 million. Future physicians like Dr. Jeffrey Klein, a nephrology fellow at Baylor Dallas, whose position is fully funded by philanthropy.
"Baylor is home to one of the busiest transplant institutes in the country, performing more than 110 kidney transplants annually. This type of environment is incredibly beneficial for my training, exposing me to multiple levels of complex patient care and providing research opportunities and diverse clinical experience," said Dr. Klein. "Not only am I lucky to train in this rich learning environment, but I am also learning from some of the leading nephrologists in the country. I am confident my future patients will benefit greatly from my fellowship at Baylor."
