Longtime Waxahachie resident Kim Sanabria had always made her health a priority. After seeing illness affect people she loved, Kim knew the importance of keeping up with routine screenings. About a year and a half ago, one of those routine screenings revealed that Kim had cancer.
Her diagnosis brought big questions: Would she have to leave Waxahachie and travel to Dallas for the care she needed? If so, how would her family manage the demands of traveling to and from appointments for treatment?
Kim was relieved to learn she could receive the care she needed at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie, just minutes from her home. Rather than spending hours driving back and forth for appointments, Kim could put that time toward treatment, recovery and being with her family.
Looking back on her experience, Kim credits the team at Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie with helping her navigate her diagnosis and treatment.
“I met a team who saw me, cared for me and helped me begin treatment, right here in my community,” she said.
Growing access to care in Waxahachie
Kim’s experience shows what receiving care close to home can mean for a family. As Ellis County grows, more residents need this same access.
The county’s population has grown 61% over the past 15 years, increasing demand for healthcare close to home. To serve this growing community, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie recently expanded, opening its East Tower, adding patient rooms and clinical space.
Donor support has helped make the new space possible and has helped expand services, including oncology and women’s and children’s care.
Celebrating a new chapter of care
On July 23, 2026, donors and other community supporters gathered to tour the new space.
Kim shared her story with the supporters who helped make the expansion possible. “I am standing here today because of moments like this and investments like yours,” she told them.
For the Glass family, supporting the hospital’s growth is deeply personal, reflecting generations of connection to Waxahachie and its healthcare community. “This hospital holds a special place in my heart. My father and I were both born here, and I later had the privilege of working here as a nurse and helping with the move to its current location,” Angela said. “Bobby and I are proud to be part of its continued growth. This expansion is an investment in Waxahachie’s future, bringing exceptional care close to home for generations to come.”
Will Turner, president of Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie, called the opening “a momentous moment in the development of our campus. “We are excited about the team that is going to help us deliver that care with the same compassion and the same heart for the community.”

Building a community legacy of care
The new East Tower is one step in meeting Ellis County’s growing healthcare needs. A future phase will help expand the hospital’s emergency department, increasing its capacity to care for patients as the community grows. Philanthropic support will help make this work possible.
