In August 2025, staff from the Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation joined forces to help deliver 94 twin Tempur-Pedic® mattresses to Twice Blessed House — a facility that offers affordable, long-term lodging for transplant patients and their caregivers during evaluation and recovery.

Thanks to a generous in-kind donation from Tempur Sealy International — and ongoing philanthropic support that keeps Twice Blessed House welcoming and comfortable — these mattresses are already making a difference. Patients have shared how even this small change has had a big impact.
Patient Joel Price and his wife, Evenia, stayed at Twice Blessed House both before and after the new mattresses were delivered, and he reflected on the difference.
Creating a restful place to heal
“I can honestly say the difference is night and day. I slept through the night, and I woke up feeling rested, which is so important when you’re going through something as intense as a liver transplant. It’s the kind of comfort that makes this place feel less like temporary housing and more like home.”
Located just two blocks from Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC), Twice Blessed House is more than a convenient place to stay. With 40 fully furnished apartment-style units, it fosters a warm, family-like atmosphere, as well as the opportunity to connect with others on a similar journey.
For nearly 30 years, Twice Blessed House has served as a home away from home for transplant patients and their caregivers. In fiscal year 2025, the facility hosted over 10,000 day stays — a 20 percent increase from 2023 — underscoring the growing need for lodging during extended care.
Each year, more than 650 lives are transformed at BUMC through organ transplants, blood and marrow transplants and cellular therapies. Roughly half of those patients travel more than 50 miles for care, making them eligible to stay at Twice Blessed House. For these patients, the facility helps ease the financial and emotional burdens of receiving care far from home.
Behind the scenes of this mattress delivery was a passionate team from the Foundation, who not only helped fill a critical need but personally delivered the mattresses and made the beds — bringing that “feels like home” comfort straight to those who need it most.
Philanthropy makes it possible
Donor support helps Twice Blessed House offer affordable housing for transplant patients and caregivers throughout the transplant journey, easing the financial and emotional burden of extended medical care away from home.
With continued generosity, Twice Blessed House can ensure that no transplant patient has to worry about where they’ll stay while receiving the care that gives them a second chance at life. Your gift helps modernize furnishings and create a home-like space for transplant families during one of the most critical times in their lives.
Help ensure that no transplant patient has to worry about where they’ll stay while receiving the care.
