An uplifting gift for North Texans

$14.9 million donation from Bloomberg Philanthropies will help transform West Dallas’ Uplift Heights Preparatory into a healthcare-focused campus.

Bloomberg Philanthropies recently announced a $250 million initiative that is connecting healthcare and education systems to create new career-technical education high schools in 10 urban and rural communities across the country.

Bloomberg Philanthropies selected Baylor Scott & White and Uplift Education—the largest public charter school network in North Texas—to develop an innovative education program that will prepare local high school students for healthcare careers and undoubtedly make a difference in underserved communities. BSW and Uplift are among only 10 recipients nationwide to receive this first-of-its-kind funding.

Through this grant, BSW and Uplift will work together to build pathways to high-demand careers in healthcare that will include: Redesigning the curriculum at an existing high school in Dallas to become a dedicated health science high school (opening in August 2024) Creating a health science track at a high school in Grand Prairie (launching in August 2025)

BSW team members will help build the curriculum and mentor and train these students—ultimately improving the economic health of families and neighborhoods across North Texas and creating a pipeline of skilled healthcare professionals reflective of the communities we serve.

Baylor Scott & White and Uplift Education are among only 10 recipients nationwide to receive this first-of-its-kind funding.

Upon completion of the program, students will graduate with dual certifications as certified medical assistants and patient care technicians, equipping them with the skills and qualifications for immediate job placement to build a path to socioeconomic success.

This is a wonderful example of the transformative role philanthropy can play in building healthy communities.
