A critical need: Affordable lodging for transplant patients

Each year, Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC) performs more than 400 life-saving transplants, drawing patients from across Texas and beyond. Many of these patients must travel more than 50 miles to receive care, and their treatment journey can last weeks, months or even years as they prepare for and recover from a transplant. The financial and logistical burden of finding safe, affordable housing during this time adds significant stress to an already challenging experience.

The challenge: Limited access to long-term lodging

For many transplant patients and their families, the cost of hotels or short-term rentals is unsustainable, and staying in unfamiliar, temporary spaces can feel isolating. Without a stable place to stay, some patients may face barriers to receiving timely, consistent care, putting their health and recovery at risk.

A home away from home: How Twice Blessed House helps

Twice Blessed House provides a solution, offering affordable, long-term lodging specifically for transplant patients and their families. More than just a place to stay, it offers a supportive, healing environment where patients can rest, recover and connect with others on a similar journey. By easing the burden of housing insecurity, Twice Blessed House allows patients to focus on what matters most—their health.

Twice Blessed House had a great impact on my recovery. Its location is close to the hospital and my doctors, which made getting to appointments so much easier. TBH helped my family also. They were able to come visit my ‘home away from home.’ Seeing my grandchildren and children made me happy and strengthened my determination to heal and get better.
