High-Risk Breast Screening Program
Baylor Scott & White’s High-Risk Breast Screening Program empowers women with personalized risk assessments and early detection strategies. Made possible through generous donor support, this lifesaving program has expanded to 10 locations across North Texas.
Breast cancer’s widespread impact
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, excluding skin cancer. It accounts for 30% of all new female cancers each year. While early detection is critical in improving survival rates, many women underestimate their risk or assume breast cancer is only hereditary—when in fact, only 10% of cases are linked to genetics.
Identifying high-risk patients early
Many women are unaware of their personal risk factors for breast cancer, which can prevent them from taking proactive steps toward early detection. To bridge this gap, Baylor Scott & White launched the High-Risk Breast Screening Program in 2020 with generous philanthropic support.
Since then, the program has expanded to 14 locations across North Texas, providing women with comprehensive risk assessments, education, and tailored screening—ensuring they don’t miss critical opportunities for early intervention and prevention.
Empowering women: The High-Risk Breast Screening Program
The High-Risk Breast Screening Program at Baylor Scott & White gives women a comprehensive understanding of their breast health by combining routine screenings with an in-depth evaluation of personal and family medical history. Using predictive risk models from leading cancer research organizations, the program identifies women at increased risk and provides them with personalized strategies for risk reduction, enhanced monitoring, and early detection—empowering them to take control of their health.
Once enrolled, patients work closely with a dedicated nurse navigator to determine the best next steps, which may include additional screenings, genetic counseling, and a customized monitoring plan. The goal is simple: to detect breast cancer at its earliest and most treatable stage. To date, more than 15,000 women — who were previously unaware of their risk — have been identified as high-risk through this program.
