Galaxy Grove: Where healing begins with play

“What’s your favorite part of the hospital?” Ryan Gebhart, president of the new Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Frisco at PGA Parkway, asked a 5-year-old boy during rounds in Labor & Delivery. Without hesitation, the boy shouted, “the PLAYGROUND!”

That moment captured the heart of what we strive for at Baylor Scott & White Health – healing that goes beyond hospital walls.

In October 2025, we officially opened Galaxy Grove, our new on-site playground, thanks to a generous in-kind donation of nearly $300,000 from an incredible community partner, the Dallas Stars Foundation.

To celebrate, Dallas Stars players Casey DeSmith and Wyatt Johnston, the team mascot “Victor E. Green,” and dozens of excited children filled the playground with laughter while leaders joined together to cut the ribbon and officially mark the beginning of a new chapter.

A place for joy, a space for healing

Galaxy Grove represents what philanthropy makes possible: care that reaches beyond the hospital walls and into the community. As Brad Alberts, Dallas Stars President and Chief Executive Officer, shared at the ribbon cutting:

We hope that this new beautifully designed space can serve as a reprieve for children, families and visitors to the hospital. This represents what can happen when a community comes together to make life brighter for those who need it most.

The playground, which was constructed to benefit children of all ages and encourage physical and educational play, features a solar system theme, complete with planet play structures and graphics showing each planet’s distance from the sun. The innovative design ensures year-round accessibility, creating a safe, engaging environment for children to play, learn and imagine.

The Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation is proud to partner with the Dallas Stars Foundation whose investment is already making a profound difference in the lives of our patients, families and community. In the first five months, since the hospital opened, more than 150 families have enjoyed visiting the park.

On a beautiful fall day in Frisco, the light of our Mission to promote the health and well-being of all individuals shines brightly over the Galaxy Grove.

A vision for the future

Within the first 90 days of being open, the BSW – Frisco at PGA Parkway campus is already making an impact. “With 300 babies already born and 500 surgeries projected at The Heart Hospital’s first year, we are well on our way to becoming a destination medical center for families across Texas and beyond,” said Ryan. “Galaxy Grove is part of our strategic vision to create a campus that serves generations with exceptional care, compassion and experience-driven community connection – a vision powered by philanthropy.”
