Philanthropists acting through contributions to Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation are helping to support Texans in need—brave healthcare workers on the front lines of the pandemic and children whose parents are battling a grave healthcare crisis.
Annette Simmons donated $1 million during the holiday season to the Baylor Scott & White Health Employees 1st Emergency Assistance Fund, which supports frontline employees with meals, childcare, lodging assistance and other unique needs faced during this time. To date, the program has raised more than $5 million and distributed over $3.3 million to more than 2,000 employees in need. The Simmons’ gift was made in honor of pioneering transplant physician Göran Klintmalm, former chief and chairman of the Baylor Scott & White Annette C. and Harold C. Simmons Transplant Institute at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

The Baylor Scott & White Health Employees 1st Emergency Assistance Fund received a $1 million donation from Annette Simmons during the holidays.
“Dr. Klintmalm dedicated his career to improving people’s lives through design and development of the organ transplantation program at Baylor Scott & White and through the leadership he
provided throughout his tenure,” said Annette Simmons. “His colleagues and fellow employees were of utmost importance to Göran and, through this gift, I hope to continue his mission to take care of those who heal others.”
Mara and David Deniger also showed generous support through a $1 million donation in 2020 to provide funding for both the Employees 1st Emergency Assistance Fund and the Child Life program. To help young children understand difficult concepts like illness and death, the Child Life program within the Palliative Care department at Baylor Scott & White Health supports grieving families. Their Child Life specialists are trained to help families through what may be one of the most difficult experiences of their lives before, during and after a loss.
The Child Life program and the Employees 1st Emergency Assistance Fund received additional funding through a $1 million donation from Mara and David Deniger.

“We are grateful to have the opportunity to help frontline workers in need and families struggling with a loss,” noted David Deniger. “These programs both offer compassionate care and impact lives in a meaningful way, and we are pleased to offer this support.”
These programs are just two examples of the commitment Baylor Scott & White has to patients, families and employees. For more information on how to support these impactful programs or others, please contact Susan McSherry at 214.820.3147 or Susan.McSherry@BSWHealth.org.
