Foundation thanks advisors and honors their stories at the February event
Philanthropic investments in Baylor Scott & White Health help propel programs that give more patients access to promising treatments, bring comfort where needed, and save lives in our community. It’s why BSW Dallas Foundation celebrates the transformational gifts of charitable donors and the professional advisors who help make this possible.
Held in February at the office of Perkins + Will, the Philanthropic Leadership Awards Dinner honored the generosity of donors Carmen and Jeff York and their financial advisors, Brian Cloud and Joe Nolan (RGT Advisors); tax advisor, Kelly Gillette (Armanino, LLP); and legal advisor, Val Cronin (Underwood Perkins).
Diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2015, Jeff was given less than two years to live, but was determined to beat the odds. After researching his options, Jeff came to BSWH for his care, where he was successfully treated.
During this process, Jeff recognized that not everyone had the means or lived close enough to life-saving cancer treatments. Grateful for his care, he began looking for a way to give back and learned about plans to build a Hope Lodge in Dallas. American Cancer Society selected Baylor University Medical Center as the location of Hope Lodge Dallas, which will offer free accommodations for patients receiving cancer care at any facility in the Metroplex who live more than 40 miles away.
“Jeff was clear that what had been done for him at Baylor had changed his life,” Brian said. “From a charitable perspective, it was obvious to me what his passion was as he sought to optimize how he takes care of his family and impacts the causes that are important to him. As a financial advisor, it is a joy and privilege to help steward people like Jeff.” During the dinner, Jeff shared how Kelly Gillette introduced him to Cynthia Krause, a vice president at the Foundation. He explained how his team of advisors collaborated in structuring and executing a complex gift of $4.7 million for Hope Lodge. “Everyone played a part,” said Joe. “It was a great team effort by and between Val, Kelly, Cynthia, Brian and me. It all came together smoothly.”

We each knew our part, worked together and shared information, making it easy for Jeff while being sure we were on top of his needs.
