Letter from the President

An important element of Baylor Scott & White Health’s customer-focused strategy is our Vision: empowering you to live well. This Vision comes up frequently in conversations with leaders across our campuses and extends beyond the delivery of medical treatment and care. The journey to well-being involves having convenient tools at your disposal and being well informed and well supported, and I am excited to share a few ways we are putting this into action.
The MyBSWHealth app stands as a testament to our commitment to convenience and empowerment. With this app, you have the power to navigate your healthcare journey around the clock. It goes beyond mere convenience—it is a lifeline for accessing care, communicating with physicians, scheduling video appointments and managing prescriptions and test results. For me, the app does not just guide my healthcare journey, it allows me to partner in care with one of my extended family members and help him live well.
Through annual checkups, mammograms, colonoscopies and other preventive care, we are providing our patients with information they can use to guide their healthcare decisions. As we look to the future of care, Baylor Scott & White is making key investments in research that will further these efforts. This reflects our commitment to giving individuals the power to take control of their health and wellness, especially when it matters most.
Baylor Scott & White’s commitment to empowering our patients and their families includes serving their holistic needs as well. We do this through programs such as Child Life Services, Arts in Medicine and Mission and Ministry—areas that also rely on generous support from philanthropy. The impact of these programs is immeasurable in the overall health and well-being of those we serve because we know that physical health is inexorably tied to a person’s spiritual, emotional and social well-being.
As we all navigate the path to a healthier life, I am grateful to be guided by such a meaningful Vision and hope you all are empowered to live well.

Letter from the Chair

In the world of healthcare, the pursuit of excellence is not just a goal—it’s a relentless commitment to the well-being of patients. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the dedication and care exhibited by the exceptional staff and physicians at Baylor University Medical Center, the System’s flagship campus in North Texas. I’ve heard stories of lives forever changed by the kindness and expertise of our medical professionals, stories that reaffirm Baylor Scott & White’s commitment to being a source of hope and healing in times of need. It’s these experiences that reinforce that, at BUMC, excellence isn’t just a word; it’s motivation woven into the very fabric of the institution.
This commitment to excellence was evident throughout this issue of The Compass. This dedication is demonstrated in the way countless clinicians across BUMC care for patients and families facing challenging health journeys, like the care received by John and Colette Dishman.
This perseverance has been recognized in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, where BUMC secured its place among the top medical centers in Texas. This achievement reflects an unwavering commitment to high-quality, customer-centric care and brings me immense pride.
This persistence is reflected in the drive to advance care, and BUMC’s leadership in robotic liver transplantation exemplifies this spirit. With a technique practiced in fewer than five centers nationwide, the transplant team at BUMC is not just embracing technology; they’re revolutionizing care and pursuing new approaches for better patient outcomes and experiences.
This devotion is evident as we reflect on the legacy of the late Dr. William Roberts—a pioneer in preventive cardiology whose contributions elevated not only our institution but the entire field of cardiac care. The heartfelt reflections from his colleagues and friends remind us that the pursuit of excellence is a journey that continues beyond a lifetime.
Excellence is not a destination; it is a journey we undertake every day, driven by our shared commitment to make a difference. It is through the generosity of individuals like you that we can innovate, excel and empower patients and communities to live well. Thank you for joining us in this pursuit.
