Moody Foundation’s Philanthropy Finds Hope in Hope Lodge

The Moody Foundation sees a chance to nurture hope and lift the human spirit through Hope Lodge.

In its mission to benefit present and future Texans, the Moody Foundation has found a unique and sustainable new home for its goodwill: the American Cancer Society Gene and Jerry Jones Family Hope Lodge in Dallas.

“The best philanthropic investments meet fundamental human needs, build community, nurture hope and lift the human spirit. Hope Lodge is a perfect fit for that investment model. The name says it all,” noted Francie Moody-Dahlberg, executive director and chairman of the Moody Foundation.

Established in 1942 by W.L. Moody, Jr., and Libbie Shearn Moody as a way to share their good fortune and make a difference in the lives of the people of Texas, the Moody Foundation has granted more than $1.5 billion to organizations throughout the state that have educated, healed, nurtured and inspired generations of Texans. The foundation has had a role in building many universities, hospitals, museums and libraries that have helped shape the Texas we know today, bringing education and inspiration to generations.

And now, that Texas spirit is extended to those battling cancer, as the Moody Foundation steps in as a supporter of this important project. “The Moody Foundation is proud to collaborate with the Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation and the American Cancer Society to provide this life-changing service to cancer patients in the greater Dallas area,” said Francie. “We encourage everyone to join us in this collaborative effort to support Hope Lodge, so they can continue to offer cancer patients free lodging and additional services for many, many years.”

When guests of Hope Lodge are welcomed to their “home away from home,” they will step into this caring environment via the Moody Foundation Lobby. The Foundation not only provided support to bring this area to life, but also lent its name to it, signifying to all who step through the doors that this area is imbued with a welcoming Texas spirit and support from across the state.

“The Foundation hopes that all the patients and their families who need the services and respite of Hope Lodge will find it’s their ‘home away from home’ during treatment. We hope they find comfort in its welcoming and embracing environment,” explained Francie.
