Can you point to a life experience that helped shape the way you think?

I worked between college and medical school. I started my own early-stage company in medical diagnostics and sold that. Then I worked for a pacemaker company, and that led me to the realization of what I wanted to do for a living. Once I saw a human heart, I thought, “Now this is the coolest thing on the planet.”

What differentiates Baylor Scott & White Health from other healthcare organizations?

A commitment to excellence and true patient care—it is in the DNA of this institution. Sincere efforts happen here every day to have the highest quality and the most compassion—whether
it’s the concierge who greets you, the people who feed you or the surgeons who operate on you.

How would you spend an extra hour in your day?

I would read. I read incessantly—I am constantly learning about everything from science and politics to medicine and interesting people. I’m a voracious reader; if I have an hour, I am going to read.

How would you spend an extra hour in your day?

As someone who gave it his all. When you do something, I believe that you do it right, do it well and do it with your whole heart. Take care of patients like they are your family.
