Help for Healthcare Heroes

Employees 1st Emergency Assistance Fund is making an impact

The COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear that we are all truly in it together. Healthcare professionals are bravely battling the virus, dedicating themselves to healing others even as they, too, experience hardships. To help support these heroes, a grateful community is contributing to the Baylor Scott & White Employees 1st Emergency Assistance Fund.

The expanded fund helps support frontline employees with meals, childcare, lodging assistance and other unique needs faced during this time, as well as employees who are unable to meet basic living needs due to the impact of COVID-19 or other financial hardship. This assistance allows caregivers to continue taking care of themselves, their families and patients.

To date, more than $2.5 million has been raised for this initiative from the community, Baylor Scott & White leadership, other employees and board members.

Baylor Scott & White Health employees apply to receive assistance from the fund, and more than 1,500 employees have received $2.3 million in funding to help ease hardships created by COVID-19. Donations have come from a wide variety of generous people—foundations large and small, local businesses, concerned families and even kind-hearted individuals like Isaac, 9-year-old boy who contributed his $3 allowance to help make a difference.

As the largest not-for-profit health system in Texas, with more than 49,000 employees, Baylor Scott & White has approximately 28,000 team members serving patients on the front lines. COVID-19 poses unique challenges for frontline caregivers, including the risk of exposure, but these brave individuals continue to persevere. As we navigate this pandemic throughout the coming months, the needs of employees are expected to continue.

“Thank you so much,” expressed one grateful employee who received financial assistance from the Employees 1st Emergency Assistance Fund. “This will help me stay ahead financially as I return to work and get back to normal rather than having to juggle bills. I am so blessed to be part of this organization where our core values are a reality rather than a motto on the wall. Thank you again.”

The Employees 1st Emergency Assistance Fund is supported entirely through charitable donations from employees and community donors—a true demonstration of how we are in it together.
