awareness and raised more than $42 million to advance the
fight against breast cancer in North Texas. Thanks to this
generous support, Baylor Scott & White has been able to
make significant investments in patient-centered care,
advanced technology and innovative research to better
serve women and families facing a breast cancer diagnosis.

Celebrating Women launches as a press conference…
and announces the opening of the W.H. and Peggy Smith Breast Center at Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC), the first of its kind in the Metroplex.
Celebrating Women holds its first event…
with more than 1,000 in attendance and $189,000 raised. BUMC becomes the first in the country to evaluate digital mammography with computer-assisted detection.
A major clinical study…
in which BUMC participated concludes. The study confirms the effectiveness of two estrogen blockers in preventing and treating certain types of breast cancer. In addition, BSW researchers continue to make great strides in immunotherapy treatments for breast cancer
BSW opens the Darlene G. Cass Imaging Centers…
offering specialized breast care and advanced imaging in the Metroplex.
The Gift of Life fund is created to help women in underserved communities access breast services
To date, nearly $2 million has been raised for this fund.
BUMC is home…
to one of only a few breast surgery oncology fellowships in the U.S. and a highly sought after breast radiology fellowship.
The Celebrating Women chair for Breast Cancer Research…
is established, and luminary breast oncologist Joyce O’Shaughnessy, MD, is named chairholder.

Patient Navigators become part of the care offered at BSW
Since then, Celebrating Women funds have supported this important resource. Last year alone, patient navigators empowered 320 breast cancer patients throughout their care journey— identifying and resolving barriers, answering questions and providing guidance—free of charge.
Sammons Cancer Center opens
The Baylor Scott & White Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center opens to patients.

Grateful patient family member Bruce Selkirk…
creates the Amy Selkirk Breast Cancer Research Fund in memory of his late wife. This fund continues to grow and supports research for triple-negative breast cancer, the most aggressive form of the disease.

High-Risk Breast Screening Program launches
Celebrating Women helps launch the High-Risk Breast Screening Program to help identify women who are at high risk and otherwise unaware.
The Lindalyn B. Adams Celebrating Women Endowment…
is created to honor the legacy Lindalyn had in the fight against breast cancer.

Hope Lodge opens
The American Cancer Society Gene and Jerry Jones Family Hope Lodge, located on the BUMC campus, opens to provide a home away from home for patients traveling for cancer treatment in the Metroplex.

High-Risk Breast Screening Program expands
The High-Risk Breast Screening Program expands across North Texas and opens its 14th location. More than 15,000 women have been identified through this program.
Genetic Counseling
Donor support helps expand the Genetic Counseling Program. In 2023, the four-person genetic counseling team at BUMC saw more than 1,300 patients. Celebrating Women funds have allowed the team to expand to serve approximately 2,100 patients annually.
