Through support of Grand Rounds, we are ensuring the future of medical education at Baylor Scott & White Health and maintaining a valuable health care asset for our community. Over the last 20 years, this effort has raised more than $3.6 million to benefit medical education initiatives across our System.
The value of medical expertise became more apparent than ever as our physicians and caregivers faithfully served on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Medical education was the pathway that made this possible, training these physicians to care for our communities during these unprecedented times.
North Texans have relied on these healthcare heroes, and together, we have the opportunity to demonstrate our gratitude and commitment to training the next generation of caregivers.
During residency, a physician trains in a particular medical specialty, develops clinical skills and professional competencies, and takes on increasing responsibility for patient care. As one of the nation’s largest private teaching hospitals, Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC) trains more than 260 residents and fellows in 40 specialties and sub-specialties each year – ranging from internal medicine to vascular surgery to pathology.
Academic affiliations with leading institutions help Baylor Scott & White develop the medical professionals of tomorrow. Recently, it was announced that the system is building on the 40-year collaboration with Texas A&M Health. This includes a major expansion of the Texas A&M Health Dallas campus, further growing the university's presence at BUMC. Over the next few years, the focus will be to expand the program to provide an exceptional learning environment, building upon the more than 200 medical students who train at BSWH facilities today. A majority of these students will train at the Dallas campus, making it the largest medical campus for Texas A&M.
As the cost of medical education continues to rise, philanthropic support is critical to furthering our commitment to care for the communities we serve.
